I agree, that would have been mighty attractive... I have an 80gb video ipod, and see no real reason to upgrade during this cycle, but I could see how in your position, it would suck big time. On the other had the ipod's original selling point of "all your music in one device" I think is sort of tried. I mean ipod batteries won't last long enough in one charge to play what you can stuff on a 30 gig, much less an 80 or 160 gig drive...

On the other hand, the touch ipods, are really much more about being web tablets, than being ipods, I think at least in my mind, so you don't need something that's incredibly huge to power that.

I think part of their intention as well is to make it so that people don't just have an ipod, but rather have a big hard drive model for playing in a stereo dock and in the car for a road trip but that if you're going running or just want to have something that will work as you walk around town throughout your day you want something like the ipod touch or the nano or shuffle. And it makes sense if you have money to burn, I've thought about this, but ultimately don't mind carrying around the 80 gigger most of the time, but wouldn't really care if it were only 60 gigs, for instance.

If you're worried about/interested in stretching the range of your smaller ipod, think about using smart playlists in some way so that you can leave off the crap that you're probably not going to listen to anyway... There's an article here.

Enjoy!

Cheers!

I think Apple should have at least OFFERED a hard drive based iPod touch. I was really looking forward to the iPhone's interface in an iPod, but my 30gb is already bursting at the seams, so I don't see myself downgrading in storage to get an upgraded interface.
